More options for accounting professionals to solve staffing problems

Three new firms recently joined the Advisor Provider Network, an alliance of professional service companies that provide supporting services to the accounting profession.

Quick Accountant met requirements and joins My Partner Online as the second Platinum Provider, and Godrej Global Solutions and Sagdeo Financial Consultants are now qualified general providers.

The network, which now numbers five firms, offers a solution to a common problem accounting practices face--excessive tedious work (especially during tax season), without adequate personnel.

The Provider Network offers accountants the opportunity to engage professional workers (whenever they need them) without having to bring them to a physical office and supply them with desks, phones, computers, software, etc. And, the Network can offer services at extremely competitive rates--up to 40 to 50 percent less in many cases.

What's the Buzz
About Utility Computing
and Why Should I Care?

Utility computing is the model of purchasing IT and computerized business processes when you need them, much like people use electricity. IBM calls it "e-business on demand."

A 2001 article in InformationWeek* described the obvious disadvantage of not using this online business model, "The common practice at many companies is to buy more computer power than is usually needed in order to be ready for spikes in demand. But it's an inherently inefficient approach."

Why? Companies end up paying for full technological capacity without using it. But with utility computing, even a small company can afford to purchase the services they need "on demand."

Any small to medium business, accounting firms not withstanding, can outsource IT management, data backups, and virus protection very affordably. There is no need to purchase a server and set up an expensive office network, when one can buy anytime-anywhere access to business data one staff member or client at at time.

And, a virtual office becomes a reality as files and applications are available from any computer on the planet that has an Internet connection.

Putting Your Clients in the Online Working Model

Ways to communicate the online platform to accountants' and bookkeepers' clients

If you're on the e-Accounting platform or considering it, you're thinking of how to best get your clients on board. For new clients, one option is adopt a this-is-my-approach policy. You explain to them the online working model, the advantages over conventional processes, and the fact that new clients you serve need to come on the platform. The monthly cost simply becomes part of your pricing structure for the client. In the long run, it's cheaper because of the time and billing saved by not having to travel to client offices or transfer updated files.

For existing clients, this approach may work, but be prepared to give them a choice. Regardless, either type of client can benefit from trying out an e-Accounting demo of a Virtual Desktop or hosted QuickBooks.

e-Accounting is
Re-structuring Website

To make it easier for customers and interested visitors to find information on the online computing model, e-Accounting is putting a new face on its website.

Customers still find their login, technical support, order, and contact buttons at the top, but new, improved features abound.

Among them are drop-down menus for major links, a navigational bar across the top, and pop-up windows for those who want more info.

Pages include a description of each solution provided, ways finance professionals can get ahead, a graphical picture of the process of engaging technology--your road map--testimonials, and a materials section.

Question of the Month

How can the
e-Accounting platform help me do tax preparation?

Since the e-Accounting technology enables firms to have anytime-anywhere access to financial data, suddenly you're not dependent on an in-house workforce. You can use a virtual office model, which means you can easily outsource tax preparation work--and other tedious business processing tasks--to other professionals, wherever they are located.

The Advisor Provider Network provides you with trained professionals (bookkeepers and accountants working on the e-Accounting platform) who can manage your tax preparation, bookkeeping, and other non-core tasks at extremely competitive rates. You gain ability to engage the clients your practice wants without the concern of having adequate personnel to do the job.

This allied network of outsource providers can coordinate the workflow and the personnel necessary to ensure your clients' needs are met, whether it's tax preparation or other services.

A provider can offer on-demand, hourly-billed services, or contract rates for full-time availability or committed volumes. In some cases, they can save you 50 percent of the market rate for hiring personnel with similar capabilities.
