The online working model gives an accountant or business owner incredible benefits. The accountant gains ability to access client applications and data from any location without the travel time typically associated with client bookkeeping. Web-based applications, such as QuickBooks® Online Edition, is one viable option for working online. However, web-based solutions are limiting—much like a child-size swimming pool is restrictive. Only a handful of applications are available as web-based, and as is the case for the QB Online Edition, some web-based applications don’t have all of each program's features available online.
The Application Service Provider (ASP) model is more versatile, more like a full-size swimming pool. e-Accounting's ASP platform allows hosting the full-feature version of QuickBooks® Pro, for example, and provides a foundation for eventually putting an array of other popular full-featured business apps online. Once these apps are online, they can fully integrate with each other just as if they were running on a local environment. Only now, the accountant and/or business owner can review and analyze financial data—QB files, Excel-generated reports, or ProSeries files—whenever they need to from home, remote office, on the road, or while on vacation.
In fact, they can access all business data and email from anywhere, without the cost associated with owning and maintaining network servers and remote equipment. Accountants work closer than ever with clients, business owners are not tied to a single location, and companies with a remote workforce or mobile sales force can cost-effectively establish a secure network. In other words, the pool is Olympic size!
Conclusion: Although using web-based apps is a good step toward taking your business online or going more paperless, for some, it may be analogous to purchasing access to a children's pool. You don’t have the ability to eventually place your other popular apps online let alone integrate them online—in other words there’s no deep end to swim towards. With the e-Accounting platform getting started with one app online puts you into the shallow end of a large pool of computing solutions. The deep end of the pool is waiting for you when you’re ready, or if you’d rather, you can just dive in from the start!
